This is truly a life changing fishing experience for the Fly-Fisherman that has never been here when it is "going". From just after Labor Day when the False Albacore show, to join the giant frothing schools of Bluefish, the game is on. Jostling for position when the massive schools of Striped Bass, sometimes all in the 20 pound range, come up along the shoreline and one can only think over and over "Just one good cast" or "One more fish and I will leave this craziness.." Suprisingly difficult to hold your nerves as the giant schools of fish crash around the boat, a calm head and steady hand will get you into almost as many fish as you can take on the right day. We can spin fish, Live-Bait fish for incredibly large Bass, or preferrably, throw flies as much or as little as you want.
This time of year books many months in advance, so please call early if you are interested in this fishing

Just 20 minutes (12 miles) from downtown Manhattan, lies a surprisingly fertile and beautiful fishery named Jamaica Bay. Extending from the runways of JFK, to the beaches of Staten Island, Sandy Hook and Coney Island, this is a huge area with no lack of fishable, productive water and is much more than novelty fishing in the shadows of the NYC skyline. This area holds one of the last great populations of Atlantic Menhaden, huge baitfish in huge schools,  that attract the gamefish that we pursue here with a fly-rod. Striped Bass, Bluefish and Weakfish are the fish and here we get em as good as anywhere, and if you can stay hooked to them, you could literally have a fish of a lifetime on light-tackle. As a bonus, this area starts much earlier in the spring than Eastern waters and lasts much later into the Fall, sometimes remaining productive until Christmas-time. We can provide transportation to/from the fishing from Lower Manhattan and provide all instruction and tackle. (round-trip transportation is for full days only)
Come springtime the fish will be in the bays and creeks, where most fishing is done in the sheltered, bird rich environment. During late Spring we are joined by the rebounding Weakfish which run to 13 pounds with an average size fish going about 8 pounds. Bluefish show up about the same time. This is also the best time of year to target very Larger Stripers while sight-fishing in shallow water.
May of 2005 yielded 25 Bass over 20 pounds on flies alone.

The nicest time of year in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Primarily fishing Gardiners Bay and the flats herein, This is a huge area with countless flats spots from Amagansett to Sag Harbor to Peconic Bay. The is by far the most challenging, yet the most rewarding, angling a fly-fisherman can do. Utilizing a flats boat for this time of year, we will pole down shorelines and flats, sight-casting to spooky Bass that range from 4-30 pounds with an average fish of about 6 pounds. Perfect casts, meticulously-tied flies and nerves of steel are the name of the game. This fishing lasts for about 8 weeks. As close to Bonefishing as you can get, with bigger and spookier fish!!! June and July.
We then move to the deeper waters around the North Fork and Fishers Island for August. Exciting fishing done with super-fast currents around huge rocks, and constantly breaking Bass. The fish can be picky so the casts have to be quick and accurate and the reward will be extremely strong fights in such fast currents.
During this time, we will have boats both in Montauk and Jamaica Bay, as well as East Hampton. There is also the possibility of exotics this time of year such as Bluefin, Skipjack and Green Bonito as well as Spanish Mackerel and Mahi Mahi. Let us know if you would like to be informed of this fishing if it materializes.
*Some of the largest Bass of the year are caught along the south side of Montauk in June and July, so if you would like to fish this instead of the Flats let us know, and we will arrange it. We can also do this if you have a flats day planned, but the sun and weather do not cooperate.

 Jamaica Bay
Oct-Nov-Dec
As the fishing in Montauk slows, we move the boats back to Jamaica Bay to take advantage of the migrating fish that are heading west and south. These Striped Bass move much faster this time of year and are aggressively feeding of the big bait balls all along the south shore of Long Island.
Most importantly, the Blue-back Herring make their way past Breezy Point at the mouth of the Bay and their presence are given away by the giant Gannets that feed on them by dive-bombing in large numbers by as high as 100 feet in the air. Given that these baits are so big, we throw big flies at big fish, and since this fishing usually lasts long into December, we often have the water to ourselves. Lots of action, clear water and all 20 minutes from NYC
